What is Power BI?
Power BI is a business intelligence platform that allows you to visualize and evaluate any data in custom dashboards. Our interface between lcmd and Power BI makes it possible to transfer project data from lcmd to Power BI without manual export and import. This allows you to see at a glance how well your projects are running, what is currently pending, and what the main causes of delays are.
In this article, you will learn how to connect lcmd to Power BI and what data can be accessed in real time.
What data can be sent to Power BI?
All data that can be exported from lcmd as an Excel file can be accessed via Power BI.
Specifically, this includes the following data:
- Process Export
- Daily Card Export
- Export of the ToDo Hub
- Export of the Reasons for Variances
What are the requirements?
To connect a project in lcmd to Power BI, you need the following:
- Access to the project in lcmd
- License for Power BI Desktop
- Necessary interface requests (API calls)
What API calls/queries are necessary?
URL 1: https://lcmd-rest.azurewebsites.net/api/rest?pid=
URL 2: ProjectID (from lcmd)
(URL 3: &cards=1)
(URL 3: &export=todos&type=xlsx)
(URL 3: &export=reasoncodes&type=xlsx)
Parameter 1: authorization
Parameter 2 : Token "Auth Token" (aus lcmd)
How does the connection work?
Step 1:
Open a report in Power BI Desktop
Step 2:
To retrieve the data, click on “Get Data” and then on “Web”.
In the dialog box that opens, click on “Advanced”.
Step 3:
Now, depending on which data you want to retrieve, you must copy the corresponding API calls/queries into the correct fields:
URL line 1: https://lcmd-rest.azurewebsites.net/api/rest?pid=
URL line 2: ProjectID (from lcmd)
Parameter 1 (bottom left)): authorization
Parameter 2 (bottom right): Token "Auth Token" (Please write the word “Token,” then a space and then insert the Auth Token from lcmd).
You can find the ProjectID and Auth Token in lcmd under “Share project” and "API".
Depending on which data you want to transfer, enter the following in URL line 3:
- &cards=1 (Daily Card-Export)
- &export=todos&type=xlsx (Export of ToDo Hub)
- &export=reasoncodes&type=xlsx (Export of Reasons for Variances)
- If you want to transfer the process export, leave URL line 3 blank.
This is what the completed dialog should look like:
Then click on “OK”.
Note: If you want to transfer all data for a project, you must perform each connection once!
Step 4:
Once your project has been loaded, the Power Query Editor will open. Right-click on the file and select “Excel Workbook.”
Click on the yellow “Table” in the Data column.
Click on “Close and apply” in the top left corner.
You will now see your data on the right-hand side and can begin to create a wide variety of evaluations and analyses.
